Figuring out the whole view of Chinese town is helping me a lots to do the visual package of this story. I drew the map which is on the top first, and then start to give me the mood of how the story going to development. After I did the most of Chinese buildings and then I decided to put the old lady's house far away from the center of the town that is located in the center of the drawing, and then there is a big tree beside the house, to give some isolated and lonely feel to the character. Also to create the focal point for this character's house.
This is done by gouache. I picked some thumbnails from the previous thumbnails I did. Using gouache is very fun, I love the traditional way to do the works, and it feels more like real artist do.

Old lady's hose environment design for the monster story is kind of fun. I was thinking every details that how an old Chinese woman lives in the house will look like. My friend, Shui pie is a very smart girl, and she gave me some inputs of my story. She suggested me that old lady making the chinese little buns for living. What a good concept! so I started to do the research and the old lady's house has more character and history.

There are two main characters in the monster story. One is a very smart monk, he saved the village by using clever way without hurting anyone and prevent monster coming to the village the ends of every year. Another character is the old lady who lost her son that eaten by the monster.

The monster of year is the folktale from ancient China. The story is about the reason why Chinese people set the fireworks up and place the red papers in front of their house during the Chinese new year holidays. The top one is the thumbnails from the scenes and the bottom one is the rough concept design of the monster.

I love food. My TV is always on the food channel until it switched to digital tv, and then I lost it. I was so sad, cause I only has very few channels. Last semester, I has visual development for game class, and we have to design a visual package for a game. I got inspiration from the iron chef competition, and then I create a DS game that is about human chefs against robot chefs. Although there are many cooking games have been done, I still want to create my own stories.
The concept is about something good about handmade food comparing with machine made. And I was trying to pull different style of food together. Well, it was fun when I was doing this project. Maybe it's not the best, but it good to give myself a try to do the game characters design.

Fixing the clock tower is on of scenes from my thesis story, Beyond the Horizon. This scene is about Reya's arrival to The Planet of Sloth and helping the people who live there to fix their clock tower. The Planet of Sloth wasn't that lazy before. People from the planet were very hard working and they follow the clock every minute, so they have very regular routine to do what they should do everyday. However, one day the clock suddenly broken by unknown reason, and then people start to become lazy and negative. Reya has to fix the clock in oder to get to the doorway to the next planet. The inspiration of the Planet of Sloth is from London. I don't mean the people from London are lazy, haha. I just like the feel of London and the street view of it.

Gehia! This is done by advanced perspective class. I was trying to do very simple shapes and work on the vertical composition in perspective. Every thing is very boxy and using vivid color for this painting. Kinda of having fun when I'm doing this painting.
